Dear OCB Colleagues:
The Ocean Carbon and Biogeochemistry (OCB) Project Office is currently seeking nominations for new Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) members.
Every Fall, the OCB Project Office solicits SSC nominations from the entire OCB community. All nominations are considered by the current SSC and voting takes place via a formal balloting process. Results are tallied by the OCB Project Office.

The OCB SSC was established in February 2006, and was created jointly by NSF, NASA and NOAA to promote, plan, and coordinate collaborative, multidisciplinary research opportunities related to carbon cycling and associated marine biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem processes. SSC
members serve a term of 3 years. For more information on the OCB SSC, including a list of current SSC members and the SSC charge and terms of reference, please visit http://www.us-ocb.org/about/committees.html

Current SSC members who are scheduled to rotate off at the end of 2011 include:

Scott Doney (WHOI) - marine biogeochemical modeling, ocean acidification
Curtis Deutsch (UCLA) - biogeochemical modeling, ocean carbon and nitrogen cycling
Richard Feely (NOAA/PMEL) - ocean acidification, inorganic carbon measurements in the ocean
Mary Jane Perry (U. Maine) - phytoplankton physiology, biological optics, and remote sensing
Walker Smith (VIMS) - controls on phytoplankton growth, carbon cycling in the Ross Sea, Antarctica

However, nominations need not be limited to the expertise listed above.

If you wish to nominate someone, please email the OCB Project Office (hbenway@whoi.edu) with the following information about your nominee:

Name
Affiliation
Contact information
Expertise
Brief (few sentences) description of what/how nominee would contribute to OCB scientific planning and implementation

Please do not submit additional materials (CVs, publications, etc.) beyond the information requested here. In fairness to all nominees, these materials will not be considered during the deliberations. Please submit nominations by October 31, 2011.

Thank you,
Heather Benway
