The Louisiana State University School of the Coast & Environment is looking for a person with a strong background in electronics and personnel and project management. This person will lead an established oceanographic research support team. He/she must be able to work well with other team members and coordinate their activities with a common goal of reliable quality data acquisition and reporting. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other engineering/scientific field including a combination of related coursework/experience in electronics and/or computer/data handling and analysis; three years related work experience in electronics and computer programming; two years of proven ability in similar program management. Special Requirements: Must be a certified open water scuba diver and small boat operator or become certified as an open water scuba diver and qualified as a small boat operator within six months of employment date; ability to handle heavy equipment. Responsibilities: Supervises a 7-15 member field support technical staff and student workers and the field support facility; designs, fabricates, and develops scientific instrumentation and data collection systems; serves as technical advisor regarding the purchase of instrumentation, data acquisition/reduction systems, and other research systems; assists scientific staff in project planning, proposal writing and budget preparation, supervises and participates in field projects, including fabrication, calibration, and installation, operation of instrument and data acquisition systems, and data quality control; supervises the training of the technical staff in the operation of instruments and systems and other routine field techniques; provides technical support and supervision at various field sites (domestic and foreign); serves as principal investigator on contracts directly serviced by the field support group.
