Announcement
Dear Early Career Scientist
This is the email announcement for the 2nd ICES/PICES conference for Early Career Scientists Oceans of Change, sponsored by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration from USA (NOAA). The 4-day conference and meeting will take place in Majorca Island, Spain, from April 24th to April 27th 2012, and will be locally hosted by the Mediterranean Institute for Marine Science (IMEDEA, CSIC/UIB)
Background and Objectives
The objective of the meeting is to encourage greater involvement of young scientists in international scientific investigations and to foster their involvement in the management of marine ecosystems. , This meeting builds on the success of ICES/PICES Early Career Scientists Meeting held in Baltimore, MD, USA in 2007 and the ICES Young Scientist Conference in Denmark in 1999.
Venue
The conference will be at Son Caliu Gran Spa Oasis (Calviá, Majorca, Spain), close to Palma city, the capital of the Balearic Islands.
Conference Structure
The conference will be held from April 24th to April 27th at Son Caliu Gran Spa Oasis but will be preceded by a welcome mixer on the afternoon of April 23rd at the Palma Aquarium. Each day of the conference will begin with an invited plenary address followed by two parallel sessions. On the afternoons of April 25th and April 27th there will be workshop breakout sessions to provide career advice for research scientists (e.g. proposal writing, communication, attracting funding) and promote new collaborations. Several outing activities are planned, including the welcoming mixer at the Palma Aquarium, a conference dinner, and a visit to the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
