Micropaleontology/Paleoclimate Research Assistant Position

Position is with a project using paleontologic, geochemical, and lithologic analyses of sediments from the Gulf of Mexico to obtain a record of environmental and climate changes in the Gulf and adjacent areas.  Specific tasks include:
 
1.  Processing sediment samples to obtain microfossils for taxonomic and geochemical analyses. 
 
2.  Identifying key microfossils for climate studies. 
 
3.  Entering  data into spread sheets and preparing illustrations.
 
Assistant will be involved in data reduction and interpretation.  Depending on experience and ability the assistant can become involved in preparation of reports and presentations.
 
Specific Qualifications Required:
 

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in area of natural sciences
  2. Ability to conduct research via the internet
  3. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
 
  1. Familiarity with graphing software programs
  2. Familiarity with Macintosh operating system
  3. Courses in paleontology and/or oceanography
  4. Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator
 
Salary Range – $30,000 – $45,000 depending on education and experience.
