Session announcement Goldschmidt 2011

Dear colleagues,

We apologize for any cross-posting of this announcement. We would like
to draw your attention to a session at the Goldschmidt conference 2011,
held August 14-19 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Session 17i: Linking "Omics" to Biogeochemical Fluxes

Convenors: Peter Girgius (Harvard University), Jutta Niggemann and
Thorsten Dittmar (Max Planck Research Group for Marine Geochemistry)

Keynote: Edward Delong (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

Description: The last decade has seen a rapid increase in the
application of new methods for assessing the microbial community
composition and potential activity in the environment. Likewise,
emerging analytical techniques in geochemistry provide information on
composition and turnover of natural organic matter in unsurpassed
detail. However, the link between ‘who is there’ and ‘biogeochemical
fluxes’ is poorly developed. This session would bring together
investigators who are focused on bridging this divide, and is intended
to foster discussion about the advantages and limitations of existing
and upcoming approaches.

This session aims at bringing together different fields of
biogeochemical research, ranging from analytical chemistry to
microbiology. Integrative studies linking organic matter characteristics
to microbiological parameters are of particular interest.

We would like to encourage you to submit your contribution for this
session and we are looking forward to an inspiring and innovative session.

Kind regards, Jutta Niggemann and Thorsten Dittmar
