Meeting announcement

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract to a special session on
“Impacts of Atmospheric Deposition on Ocean Chemistry and Biology” at the 2010 Goldschmidt Conference. The meeting will take place between June 13 – 18 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Meeting web page www.goldschmidt2010.org
Abstract deadline February 21 and early registration deadline April 16.
Session description and meeting information below-

“Impacts of Atmospheric Deposition on Ocean Chemistry and Biology”

Atmospheric aerosols impact the ocean directly by depositing nutrients, trace metals, toxins, organic compounds and microorganisms, and indirectly by impacting the albedo and thus sea-surface temperature. These effects may in turn impact ocean ecosystems, interact with the oceanic carbon cycle and thus influence climate. This session welcomes all possible aspects of interactions between natural and anthropogenic aerosols and the oceans, including the contribution of atmospheric deposition to macro- and micro-nutrient input, trace metal toxicity, introduction of microorganisms and the interaction of atmospheric deposition loads with biological and chemical processes in the oceans. We also encourage contributions that discuss the impact of aerosols on ocean acidification, those that integrate observations with biogeochemical models and those reporting past and future changes in atmospheric deposition.

The abstract and registration/campus accommodation forms for Goldschmidt 2010 are now live and can be found from the conference website (www.goldschmidt2010.org). The abstract deadline is February 21st, and the last date for early registration is April 16th, 2010.
A large team of geochemists from across the globe has put together the broadest science program for any Goldschmidt conference to date. There are over 170 sessions divided into 22 themes - see http://www.goldschmidt2010.org/themes for a list of sessions and keynote speakers.
There are also various field trips and workshops planned for before, during and after the conference.
The conference looks set to continue the tradition of outstanding Goldschmidt conferences in North America. Do plan to join us and be a part of it.
