OCB Scoping Workshop in November 2010 - The molecular biology of biogeochemistry: Using molecular methods to link ocean chemistry with biological activity
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to call your attention to the upcoming OCB scoping workshop “The molecular biology of biogeochemistry: Using molecular methods to link ocean chemistry with biological activity,” to be held in Los Angeles, California from November 8-10, 2010. This workshop will convene molecular biologists and biogeochemists to determine what genomic and proteomic tools can be applied to important problems in the carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles of the ocean through an understanding of how microbes and primary producers interact with their physical and chemical environment. The primary objective of the workshop is to develop recommendations for specific molecular biological measurements carried out within large-scale global surveys that address the OCB themes of (1) feedbacks and climate sensitivities of biogeochemical cycles; and (2) interactions with ecosystem structure, ocean carbon production, uptake, and storage. For more information, please visit the workshop website at http://www.whoi.edu/sites/molbiogeochem.
The workshop will be limited to 50 participants. OCB will cover accommodations, a ground transportation allowance, breakfast, lunch, and a group dinner for all participants. Travel support will be available for plenary speakers, workshop planning committee members, and junior participants, including students and postdocs. To apply to participate, please visit http://cis.whoi.edu/science/MCG/ocb/2010_mol_bio/registration.cfm. The application deadline is July 1, 2010.
Best wishes,
Jim Moffett and Eric Webb, workshop conveners
