MPOWIR at Ocean Sciences

Dual Career Couples in the Sciences
A town hall meeting at Ocean Sciences, Orlando 2008
Sponsored by MPOWIR (Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention)
Thursday, March 6
7:30 pm in Room W101 Orange County Convention Center

Dr. Elizabeth Creamer, a professor and researcher of issues related to faculty careers at Virginia Tech, will speak on the subject of dual-career couples. There is evidence that counters the somewhat negative characterization of dual-career couples in the sciences as a “two-body problem.” This interactive presentation will present information about some famous historical couples in the sciences and summarize recent research about the impact of children and/or an academic spouse on faculty research productivity.

Refreshments will be provided and the presentation will be followed by a question and answer session with Dr. Creamer.
