North Atlantic-Arctic Science Plan available for comment until October 17

Dear Colleagues,
In April 2014, an international (EU, Canada, US) group of scientists and funding agency representatives met in Arlington, VA for a workshop to discuss the state of science in the North Atlantic-Arctic system and begin planning the next phase of interdisciplinary research, with an emphasis on mechanisms to facilitate international collaboration. A meeting report summarizing key discussions that took place at this workshop was just published in the Sept. 2 issue of Eos (citation below). The outcome of this planning workshop will be a community-vetted science plan that outlines a core vision for advancing the next phase of research on the North Atlantic-Arctic system and strengthening international collaborations within and between the European Union (EU) and North America.  The organizing committee and workshop participants have developed a draft science plan that is now available to download (pdf) at  http://www.whoi.edu/website/NAtl_Arctic/.  Please email your comments on the plan to hbenway@whoi.edu by October 17.  The science plan will be finalized by early 2015, and will be used by US and international funding agencies for planning and coordination of future North Atlantic-Arctic research opportunities.

Eos meeting report:

Please feel free to circulate this information to other individuals and/or groups who might be interested in contributing to this science plan.

Best wishes,
