SOLAS Open Science Conference

The Surface Ocean – Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS) will be holding its fourth open science conference in May 2012 and early registration is open until 8 February (see https://www.confmanager.com/main.cfm?cid=2445&nid=15064). These conferences provide a regular opportunity for scientists working on SOLAS topics to exchange research results and develop new collaborations. The main objective of SOLAS is "to achieve quantitative understanding of the key biogeochemical-physical interactions and feedbacks between the ocean and atmosphere, and of how this coupled system affects and is affected by climate and environmental change." SOLAS continues to develop its mid-term strategy around the following topics:

·        Sea-ice biogeochemistry and interactions with the atmosphere
·        Ocean-derived aerosols: production, evolution and impacts
·        Atmospheric control of nutrient cycling and production in the surface ocean
·        Ship plumes: impacts on atmospheric chemistry, climate and nutrient supply to the oceans\
·        Air-sea gas fluxes at Eastern boundary upwelling and Oxygen Minimum Zone (OMZ) systems
·        SOLAS Observatory and MOIN: the Minimalist OceanSITES Interdisciplinary Network

Please forward this information to any of your colleagues who have an interest in attending the SOLAS Open Science Conference.

Happy holidays!
