Opportunity to develop US-UK collaborations between ocean acidification researchers

Dear Colleagues:

The Ocean Carbon and Biogeochemistry Project’s ocean acidification
subcommittee would like to call your attention to an opportunity for
building collaborations between scientists in the United States and the
United Kingdom, as part of the recent U.S. National Science Foundation
and U.K. Ocean Acidification research program’s calls for proposals
(http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=503477; and

respectively).

In early 2011, the U.K. government’s Science & Innovation Network
supported 10 short working visits between U.S. and U.K. researchers
collaborating on ocean acidification research. These have led to several
grant proposals and an institution-wide memorandum of understanding
regarding collaboration in preparation, and multiple papers in planning,
preparation, and press. For details, see
_http://ukinusa-stage.fco.gov.uk/resources/en/word/650730482/cda-programme-oa_.

The recent NSF Ocean Acidification invites collaborative international
projects. U.S. investigators with collaborative partnerships, including
those with UK researchers, should include collaborative letters in their
proposals consistent with NSF proposal guidelines. They may also want to
contact OA managing Program Directors (see below) to discuss how to
address the collaborations in the proposal. U.S. Investigators should
anticipate travel funds to facilitate the collaborative and include them
in the budget request, but remembering that NSF will only support the
costs of US investigators. It would also be a good idea to contact the
appropriate Program in the NSF Office of International Science and
Engineering (OISE) to gauge their interest in supporting some of the
international collaborative activities.
